Lonnie often starts his works with photographs he takes. Then, he chooses which are worthy of turning into acrylics. These photographs capture three very different views of the landscape and seasons close to home.
Charles and Matt Cullers’ Homestead looks across an open green field toward the house and farm buildings, with the mountains forming a low ridge in the distance. The wide blue sky and open pasture give the photograph a strong sense of place. It is a picture of Lonnie’s Grandparent’s Home located on Veach Gap Rd., Fort Valley, Va.
Snowy Days turns to winter, where fresh snow settles over shrubs and branches and softens the familiar shapes of the yard.
Geese shows Canadian geese in a local pond searching the bottom for food.
An overlook at the Ginter Botanical Gardens where you can see the pond beyond.
In Dogwood, the view comes in close. White blossoms fill the frame, with the soft greens and pinks of the background giving the photograph the feeling of a spring evening.
Which one will Lonnie turn into a acrylic painting next? Only the artist knows.
